Description
Amtech lightweight composite armor can be molded or form fitted to
any shape for any known military vehicle or application. The level
of protection can be homogeneous throughout the product or localized
and varied in specific areas for different areas of protection against
higher threat levels. Lightweight composite armor offers a significant
weight savings over steel, estimated to be 25-30% at National Institute
of Justice (NIJ) threat level III. Lightweight composite armor also
offers a lighter aerial density than traditional metallic armor. Amtech's
unique process is well suited for production of armored tops, doors,
side panels, interior blankets, and underbelly defense against IED
blasts.
Lightweight composite armor is fully compatible with the Army's emerging
Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS) A/B kit approach to armor solutions.
As part of the B kit, lightweight composite armor, in field operations,
would be easier to handle, simpler to repair, environmentally non-corrosive,
and lighter than metal armor. Amtech lightweight composite armor can
be incorporated into current armor solutions. Moreover, it represents
a stand alone capability to extend armor solutions into areas not
currently protected including specialty applications such as ambulances
and command and control vehicles. Additionally, Amtech's lightweight
composite armor has application in integrated armor solutions on new
vehicles installed by OEM and in RECAP/RESET programs at depot level.
The production process by which the lightweight composite armor is
produced has been engineered so that full process documentation is
maintained for each HARDTOP. This is to ensure production consistency
and allow for verification that each individual hard top was manufactured
to specification.
