Amtech
Corporation began producing the Helmet Hardtops® product line in 1991,
and has been in production with other products since 1987. In 1998, Amtech‘s
Helmet Hardtop® was evaluated at Aberdeen Test Center where it successfully
completed a rigorous test program and was certified as an authorized
replacement for canvas on the HMMWV. The comprehensive test program included
numerous performance tests that supported the versatile applicability
of the Hardtop for use on the HMMWV. Amtech’s Helmet Hardtops® are
the only products of their kind to be tested at Aberdeen Test Center.
Amtech has the manufacturing infrastructure necessary to support anticipated
and unanticipated product requirements. An example of this was demonstrated
during the military build-up for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Monthly production
rates had averaged less than 50 units per month. With the onset of combat
operations, and an immediate requirement for more Helmet Hardtops®, Amtech
was capable of increasing production up to 800 units per month, an
increase of Helmet Hardtops® of over 2,000%!
In 2005, at the request of the U.S. Marine Corps, Amtech developed an armored
version of its standard height hardtop in partnership with the University
of Delaware’s Center for Composite Materials (a US Army Center for
Excellence). Our lightweight composite armor is currently undergoing automotive
and ballistic testing at Aberdeen Test Center (ATC). Thus far, testing
has met or exceeded the required performance criteria.
